'Abuse of parliamentary privilege will be corrected' – Srem Sai warns Afenyo-Markin

The Deputy Attorney General has denied allegations from the Minority Leader. These claims concern National Security operatives during a raid on Dr. Ernest Yedu Addison's home.

On Sunday, Justice Srem Sai posted on Facebook. He accused Alexander Afenyo-Markin of misusing his parliamentary privileges. He claimed Afenyo-Markin spread falsehoods that stirred public anger.

Justice Srem Sai noted that the Constitution protects MPs from defamation suits. This protection aims to improve good faith parliamentary debate. However, he argued that Afenyo-Markin abused this privilege irresponsibly.

He stated, “The protection is not a security for false or malicious commentary.”

During a press conference on March 20, the Minority Leader alleged misconduct by National Security operatives. He claimed they stole cash and valuables from Dr. Addison’s wife.

Justice Srem Sai firmly dismissed these allegations as fabrications.

He said, “Sadly, an MP has chosen to abuse this protection.” This misuse creates public disaffection and undermines constitutional protections.

He clarified that Dr. Addison was aware of the legal proceedings. He also stated that Dr. Addison faced no undue distress during the operation.

“Dr. Addison had access to legal counsel throughout the search,” he revealed. The operation followed legal protocols and was conducted cordially.

Justice Srem Sai hinted at possible consequences for abusing parliamentary privilege. He warned that such abuses would be corrected for democracy's health.

His rebuttal adds complexity to the ongoing controversy in this case. The Minority Leader has not yet responded to these counterclaims.

Justice Srem Sai’s statement indicates that the government may act against perceived misinformation.
