'Due process has to be followed' - Kodua Frimpong on attempted arrest of Ntim Fordjour

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, criticized National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) officers. He accused them of ignoring due process when inviting a Member of Parliament for questioning.

This incident occurred when NIB operatives went to the home of Assin South MP Rev Ntim Fordjour. They were there to execute an arrest warrant.

In a press interview at the MP's home, Mr. Kodua expressed his disappointment. He called the chaos that ensued “needless and unwarranted.”

He emphasized that Ghana is governed by the rule of law, not by individuals. Therefore, proper legal procedures should have been followed for inviting an MP.

Mr. Kodua asked if the current administration followed these procedures. He concluded that they did not.

He argued that if authorities acted in good faith, they would have contacted the Speaker of Parliament first. This would align with constitutional requirements instead of using a "rambo-style" approach.

He questioned why the government created tension over an invitation when no crime had been committed by the MP involved.

Mr. Kodua stated that the chaos was unnecessary and uncalled for since no crime occurred. He expected the government to commend Rev Fordjour rather than harass him.

Rev Ntim Fordjour alleged that two aircraft recently landed in Ghana involved in money laundering and drug trafficking. He has called on the government to investigate this matter publicly.

In response, government spokesperson Felix Kwakye-Ofosu refuted these allegations as false. He explained that the aircraft landed due to minor technical faults and legitimate reasons.

This situation has increased political tension between the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and opposition NPP parties.
