'Farewell, holy Father' - Accra to hold solemn Requiem Mass for Pope Francis

The Catholic Archdiocese of Accra has announced a Requiem Mass. This Mass honors the late Pope Francis. The faithful are invited to gather for prayer and thanksgiving.

In a press release, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie signed it. He expressed deep reverence and solidarity with the Universal Church. The Archdiocese prepares to say farewell to the late Pope.

“This Requiem Mass is organized by the Apostolic Nunciature,” Archbishop Kwofie stated. It is in collaboration with the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC). He emphasized its nationwide spiritual significance.

The Mass will take place on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. It will be held at Holy Spirit Cathedral in Adabraka.

Archbishop Kwofie urged all priests, religious, and lay faithful to attend. He called this a profound moment of collective mourning and reflection.

“To ensure full participation,” he added, “I request that Friday evening Masses be celebrated in the morning.”

He encouraged everyone to come together as one family of faith. They should thank God for the life and ministry of the late Pontiff. They will also commend his soul to God's infinite mercy.

Ending his message, Archbishop Kwofie prayed for peace for the late Pope's soul. He also prayed for all departed souls through God's mercy.

As Ghana prepares to honor this beloved shepherd, bells will toll at the Cathedral. They will toll not just in sorrow but in reverence for a touching papacy.
