'I don't know what you call rich' - Bryan Acheampong on support for Wontumi's GH¢50m bail

Dr. Bryan Acheampong, MP for Abetifi, confirmed his role in securing bail for Bernard Antwi Boasiako. He is also known as Chairman Wontumi, the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman.

Acheampong stated they are finalizing the bail process. They have completed property inspections. The next step is verifying the properties' value to meet bail conditions.

Dr. Acheampong, a potential candidate for the NPP leadership in 2028, has offered properties to assist with bail. He described this as a normal gesture and said he doesn’t understand what being “rich” means.

In other news, Mr. Antwi-Boasiko has withdrawn a motion to review his bail conditions. This motion was filed at the High Court in Accra on May 30, 2025.

The hearing was set for June 3 but was withdrawn on June 2 by his legal team. Chairman Wontumi had challenged the GH¢50 million bail set by EOCO.

His lawyers argued that the amount was excessive and aimed at hindering his release. The Deputy Attorney-General, Justice Srem-Sai, stated that Wontumi is under investigation for serious crimes like fraud and money laundering.
