'I gave him a sensitive job in government' – Nitiwul shocked over NIB Director’s conduct

Former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul is disappointed with the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB). This follows a dramatic attempt to arrest Assin South MP at his Spintex home in Accra.

In an interview on Joy News’ PM Express, he expressed disbelief. He once trusted Charles Alhassan Kipo with a sensitive government role. Nitiwul never expected him to authorize such an incident.

He confirmed that the NIB had indeed sent people to the location.

Nitiwul received a distressing call about the situation. A colleague informed him that the MP's house was surrounded by suspected NIB agents. He counted over 15 police officers present.

Alarmed, he decided to assess the situation himself. His past experience as Defence Minister motivated him to intervene. He knew many of the officers involved and thought he could help calm things down.

Upon arrival, he was shocked by what he saw. He questioned the operatives about their actions and whether they had a warrant for the arrest.

“The first question I asked was, 'Do you have a warrant?' They said no,” he recounted.

More surprisingly, the leading NIB official claimed his seniority justified the arrest. “He said his face is a warrant in itself,” Mr. Nitiwul noted.

Legal minds present challenged this rationale immediately. “You cannot say your face alone is enough to arrest anyone,” they argued.

Nitiwul also raised concerns about how some operatives were masked. “Some officials covered their faces for reasons I cannot explain.”

While police were present, he emphasized that lawful arrests need clear justification. “If police have reasonable suspicion, that's different,” he stated. However, they still lacked an arrest warrant for the MP.
