'I was for Brexit, we needed to move away from bureaucracy' - Baroness Foster

Baroness Arlene Foster, the former First Minister of Northern Ireland, supports Brexit.

She believes it is necessary to escape European bureaucracy. This would allow the UK to regain control over its trade policies.

On Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on May 30, she emphasized that leaving the EU was about sovereignty. It also aimed to give the UK flexibility in global trade.

"I was for Brexit," she stated. "We needed to move away from EU bureaucracy." She wants to free up trade and support small businesses.

Baroness Foster is a key figure in Northern Irish and UK politics. She noted that EU membership posed challenges for small businesses.

"There are many rules making life difficult for them," she said. However, she believes Brexit will help small businesses thrive.

The Brexit movement began with a referendum in June 2016. In this vote, 52% of British voters chose to leave the EU.

The campaign focused on national sovereignty and controlling immigration. It also highlighted the need for independent trade deals. The decision led to a complex withdrawal process, ending with the UK's exit from the EU on January 31, 2020.
