The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has rejected claims.
He says his party is not copying the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Haruna Mohammed spoke on Joy News’ PM Express on April 16. He insisted that the NPP introduced this practice over thirty years ago.
He stated they are not learning from the NDC's history.
“When it is set right, you will see that we started this in 1992,” he said.
He referred to a significant report after rejecting the 1992 presidential results.
“When we disagreed with those elections, we created the Stolen Verdict,” Haruna recalled.
“The Stolen Verdict was written by a group from the NPP,” he added.
This practice has been consistent for the NPP, regardless of winning or losing.
“We had another committee before the Osafo Maafo committee,” he explained. “The Osafo Maafo committee was formed after our 2020 election win.”
Haruna noted that the latest committee is led by Professor Michael Chris.
“This committee comes after our recent defeat,” he said.
He emphasized that their loss was still significant, as they received 41 percent of votes. In comparison, they got 39 percent in 1996.
Election review committees are part of the party’s identity, according to Haruna.
“So yes, we form committees,” he stated firmly. “We are certainly not learning from the NDC.”
By referencing their history and practices, Haruna positioned the NPP as introspective and committed to learning.
“We do this whether we win or lose,” he emphasized again. “It is not about copying; it reflects who we are.”
