The Centre for Democratic Movement (CDM) has assessed President John Dramani Mahama’s first 100 days in office.
They warn that Ghana stands at a “crucial crossroads.” This is between democratic renewal and political relapse.
In a press release, the CDM gave Mahama a score of 4 out of 10. They stated that “much more is expected than has been delivered.”
The CDM urged the President to confront Ghana’s challenges directly. They emphasized that the presidency is not a privilege but a responsibility.
“It is not enough for a leader to avoid conflict,” they said. Leadership must be felt through action and proven through transformation.
While acknowledging some early political calm, the CDM noted ongoing issues. These include political victimization, erratic power supply, and fiscal irresponsibility.
The group painted a grim picture of national challenges. Issues like inequality, environmental degradation, and public sector dysfunction persist.
These problems cannot be solved with rhetoric or partisan maneuvering. The CDM called for Mahama to become the “transformational leader” needed now.
They outlined urgent steps for improvement. These include curtailing political retribution and upholding civil service integrity.
Other demands are safeguarding judicial independence and rescuing Ghana from fiscal recklessness. They also want decisive action against corruption and illegal mining.
Ensuring energy security through innovation is crucial too. Restoring public confidence in security agencies is another priority.
“These are not just ideals,” stressed the CDM; “they are democratic imperatives.”
They warned Mahama that his honeymoon period is over. The time for lofty promises has passed.
“History is watching,” they said, along with the people and the world. As time passes, excuses will fade while demands for action grow louder.
The CDM challenged Mahama to redefine his presidency with principles and progress.
“Let him lead as a custodian of national destiny,” they concluded.
