Kurt Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has called for swift action from the Ghana Police Service. He wants them to find those responsible for the death of Asante Kotoko supporter, Pooley.
Okraku spoke at the 24th anniversary of the May 9 Stadium Disaster. The event took place at Accra Sports Stadium. He emphasized the need to protect football fans and uphold the sport’s spirit.
“The loss of Pooley is a painful reminder,” he said. “We must protect supporters and preserve the game’s sanctity.” He urged police to pursue justice quickly for Pooley's untimely death.
Pooley was reportedly murdered during a league match in Nsoatre. This incident occurred during a game between Nsoatreman and Kotoko in February.
Okraku reaffirmed GFA’s commitment to combat hooliganism and violence in football. He noted progress in infrastructure and regulations but stressed that justice is essential for restoring trust.
His remarks were made in front of key figures in football. This included the Sports Minister, GFA Executive Council members, and representatives from Hearts of Oak and Kotoko. Families of May 9 victims were also present.
As the community reflects on past tragedies, one message stands out: “Never Again.”
