Freddie Blay, former Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), supports the party’s ‘Thank You’ tour. He believes it is essential for unity and energizing grassroots supporters before the 2024 elections.
His comments come as some party members worry that the tour may deepen internal divisions. The tour is led by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP's flagbearer for 2024.
Blay argues that this initiative is timely and necessary after a tough national campaign. In an interview with Channel One TV on April 29, he stressed that the tour is more than just a ceremonial gesture.
“It’s a political strategy to engage our base and build solidarity,” he said. He believes it will energize supporters and encourage open dialogue.
Blay dismissed criticism suggesting these activities should have happened before the elections. He stated that reconciliation and rebuilding are more important right now than electoral strategies.
“Those who say we should wait for elections are focused only on that,” he added. “The party’s priority is to unite and energize its base, which this tour accomplishes.”
