'Thanks for using my name to fill halls but...' -Napo to comedian OB Amponsah

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, known as “Napo,” is the running mate for the 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer. He recently responded to comedian OB Amponsah's jokes about him.

During a performance at the Bukom Boxing Arena, OB humorously addressed Napo. His jokes focused on Napo's comments from the 2024 election campaign. The audience found these segments funny, and they received a warm response at the December 21 event.

Napo acknowledged OB’s use of his name in the stand-up routine. He expressed happiness that a comedian is promoting him for free.

“If someone is using my name and filling halls, I am happy,” he said. However, he joked about wanting to share in any financial rewards from this publicity.

One joke referenced Napo's controversial statement comparing President Akufo-Addo to Ghana's first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. During his unveiling as running mate on July 9, 2024, Napo claimed no president has developed Ghana like Akufo-Addo.

“Since independence in 1957, no president has helped Ghana like Nana Addo,” he stated. This comment sparked outrage and disbelief among many people.

OB’s commentary has resurfaced recently, prompting questions during a press meeting after the NEC gathering in Accra today.

In other news, Dr. Opoku Prempeh confirmed he will not run for office in the 2028 elections. Speaking to journalists at a party event, he dismissed rumors about positioning himself for a presidential bid.

"Personally, I am not running in 2028," he stated firmly. He emphasized that party unity is his main focus moving forward.
