Tiger Eye P.I., a private investigative firm, has reacted to a U.S. court ruling. This ruling significantly reduced the damages in their defamation case against MP Kennedy Agyapong. The firm stated that the legal battle was about truth and justice, not money.
The trial judge granted Mr. Agyapong’s motion for remittitur. This cut the original $18 million award by a jury down to just $500. The court acknowledged that Mr. Agyapong had defamed Tiger Eye P.I., but deemed the jury's amount excessive.
In a press statement, Tiger Eye P.I. highlighted that the ruling confirmed their core issue: Mr. Agyapong maliciously defamed them.
The statement noted, “Today, the trial judge granted Kennedy Agyapong’s motion for remittitur.” It added that while he was found to have defamed them, the jury's award was too high.
Led by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, Tiger Eye P.I. stressed their focus on legal and moral vindication of their reputation over financial gain.
Anas stated, “Many avenues of redemption accrue to me.” He emphasized that this fight is not about money but about truth and justice.
The group also pointed out that Mr. Agyapong failed to prove any claims against them in court.
“I am happy that not a single allegation was proven against me,” Anas said in the statement.
