Former Auditor General Daniel Yaw Domelevo has criticized government officials. He says they have not followed the asset declaration law. He calls their actions “gross indiscipline and disrespect” for the President.
President Mahama submitted his asset declaration forms on February 18. He also ordered his appointees to declare their assets by March. Those who fail to comply will face sanctions.
An analysis by The Fourth Estate shows that nine out of 55 ministers and deputy ministers have not complied. Additionally, eight out of 32 presidential staffers are also non-compliant. Furthermore, 37 out of 84 heads of state institutions appointed between January 15 and March 18 have yet to meet the directive.
On April 30, Mr. Domelevo spoke on JoyNews News Desk. He urged President Mahama to take immediate action against those involved. He stated that "the axe must fall immediately."
Domelevo emphasized that ignoring the law undermines the President's authority. This is especially true after a public announcement and directive from the Chief of Staff.
"This is not how to reset a country," he asserted. He added that if the team helping the President is undisciplined, it shows a lack of respect for him and his office.
He believes swift action is necessary, stating those involved should be dismissed "without exception." In his view, there are many capable Ghanaians available for these roles—over 33 million in total.
"He should clear all of them," he concluded, noting there are several capable people ready to work.
