'We’ll reduce fares if fuel drops to ¢12 per litre' -GPRTU assures commuters

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has pledged to lower transport fares if fuel prices decrease to 12 cedis per litre. This commitment comes amid rising fuel costs that have significantly impacted the cost of commuting for many Ghanaians. GPRTU’s General Secretary, David Zanu, emphasized that fare adjustments are contingent upon a drop in fuel prices, aiming to alleviate financial pressure on passengers.

Currently, the union has no plans to raise fares despite ongoing inflation and increasing operating costs. Zanu highlighted that any fare increase would be viewed as a last resort, with the union prioritizing affordability for commuters. He also noted that while recent fare hikes were necessary due to rising fuel prices, further increases will only be considered if there are significant changes in fuel costs.

This statement reflects GPRTU's ongoing efforts to balance operational sustainability with passenger needs amid fluctuating market conditions. Commuters are encouraged to stay informed about potential fare changes as the situation evolves.
