Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, has issued a warning. He addressed the unrest in Bawku, urging those responsible to cease their actions.
He stated that attacks on civilians or military personnel will be treated as extremism. The Ghana Armed Forces will respond with full force.
Maj Gen Gbetanu spoke at a press briefing after visiting Bawku. He emphasized the military's readiness to confront violent elements decisively.
“I caution all, especially troublemakers in Bawku,” he said. “Your days are numbered. Any attack on innocent people will face our full strength.”
The Army Chief promised there would be "no safe haven" for those choosing violence. He affirmed the commitment of the Ghana Armed Forces to track down armed individuals involved in the conflict.
“We will pursue every individual involved,” he assured. “Justice will be served.”
Maj Gen Gbetanu also appealed to the youth. He urged them to abandon violence and choose dialogue instead.
“Lay down your arms and seek peace,” he said. “Your future lies in building and growing your country.”
Earlier, he visited the Kusaug Traditional Council. During this visit, he called for collaboration between traditional leaders and security forces.
He asked chiefs to help guide the youth away from confrontation with military personnel. Mutual respect is essential for maintaining stability in the area.
