Dr. Delese Darko, CEO of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), revealed that the agency has granted licenses to 10,038 products and registered 1,900 facilities under its Progressive Licensing Scheme (PLS) since its launch in 2019.
The PLS aims to enhance product quality, safety, and efficacy, supporting the government's industrialization agenda.
Dr. Darko highlighted that the PLS is a three-stage licensing system based on a risk-based approach, starting with a pink license for facilities partially compliant with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
At a recent workshop, Dr. Darko emphasized the importance of local pharmaceutical production, aiming for 70% of the country’s pharmaceutical products to be locally manufactured in the coming years.
