Hundreds of newly posted teachers from the Colleges of Education are protesting. They were assigned to the Ashanti Region in July 2024. The protest took place at the Ghana Education Service (GES) headquarters.
The teachers demand immediate payment of their outstanding salaries. They have not been paid for seven months, despite starting work last year.
Adomako Korankye, the group's president, spoke to the media. He said over 700 newly recruited teachers are affected by this delay. Many others still lack staff identification numbers needed for salary processing.
Mr. Korankye stated, “The financial burden is becoming unbearable.” He added that many struggle to make ends meet after months without pay.
The teachers urge the Ministry of Education and GES to act quickly. They want a resolution and prompt issuance of staff IDs.
