Devastating Road Crash at Amanase Claims At Least 11 Lives

A tragic road crash occurred at Amanase, near Suhum. This happened along the Accra-Kumasi Highway on April 22, 2025.

At least 11 people have been confirmed dead. The victims include two women and nine men. Many others suffered serious injuries.

The crash involved a fuel tanker and a Sprinter bus. Preliminary police reports state that the tanker driver veered into oncoming traffic. This caused a head-on collision.

First responders from the Suhum Fire Service and Police quickly arrived at the scene. They assisted with rescue operations and managed traffic.

Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Awatey expressed her sadness over the incident. She is visiting victims at the Suhum Government Hospital.

Amanase has seen fatal crashes before. In December 2023, one person died in a crash involving a VIP bus.

In another incident in 2021, residents clashed with police over suspected ritual murderers. A mob had arrested five suspects trying to abduct a child for rituals.

The angry youth nearly lynched them but police intervened in time.
