Twelve Black Americans, including six women, have been arrested in Nkwanta South, Oti Region, while traveling from Sokodé, Togo, to Odomi-Challa.
The group, on a journey to trace their ancestral roots, was detained due to heightened tensions in the area.
Residents, wary of foreign involvement in the ongoing conflict, suspected them of being hired warriors and blocked their passage.
Though the travelers insisted their visit was cultural, concerns over security led to their arrest.
The police intervened, confirming that no illegal activity was detected.
Chief Superintendent Philip Gyekye Ninfa of the Ghana Immigration Service assured residents that the group had valid documentation but was sent back for their safety.
