120-day social contract - NDC's resetting agenda yet to take off - IERPP

The Institute of Economic Research and Public Policy (IERPP) reports that the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) 'Resetting Ghana' agenda is not gaining momentum.

They rated the government’s performance at 35.6 percent, which is an “F” grade. This assessment covers the administration's 120-day social contract.

The scorecard reviews the government's fulfillment of 25 key promises made by President John Mahama before he took office. These commitments include areas like governance, economy, energy, environment, and social intervention.

Professor Isaac Boadi, Executive Director of IERPP, spoke to JoyNews. He said, “The numbers don’t look good.” The presentation aims to inform Ghanaians about the government's performance so far.

According to their data, social intervention scored 52 percent and economic reset scored 45.56 percent. However, energy and environment scored only 16.67 percent while governance and accountability received 23.13 percent.

Mr. Boadi emphasized that their findings are based on objective analysis without political bias. He stated they rated the government fairly based on its performance in various areas.

He noted that illegal mining remains a significant issue in Ghana. The fight against it is not progressing as expected.

While some observers see promise in the 120-day social contract, IERPP's evaluation raises doubts about NDC’s ability to effectively reset the economy.
