A total of 155 candidates from Ghana’s 16 regions have filed nominations to contest for regional slots in the Council of State election scheduled for Tuesday, February 11.
The contenders include 145 men and 10 women, who are vying for a single slot in each region through an electoral college system consisting of district assembly representatives.
Notable candidates include chiefs, former MPs, academics, business leaders, and professionals from diverse fields.
The election will take place at designated regional centers, with the winners joining the Council to advise the President.
The Council of State plays a key constitutional role in governance, offering counsel on national matters.
The Electoral Commission has confirmed preparations are in place for a smooth electoral process.
