The Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has raised alarm over Ghana’s annual $15 million expenditure on rent for foreign service officers, describing it as a troubling example of financial mismanagement.
Speaking at a press conference, Ablakwa questioned the government's priorities, stressing that such huge spending could be better managed or redirected toward more pressing national needs.
He urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to explore cost-effective alternatives such as acquiring state-owned properties abroad or long-term leasing arrangements.
According to him, the current approach is unsustainable and reflects a deeper issue of inefficient public spending.
Ablakwa emphasized the need for strategic reforms in Ghana’s foreign service operations to reduce waste and ensure fiscal responsibility, especially at a time when the country is grappling with economic challenges.
