The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of seventeen people. This group includes seven Chinese nationals and ten Ghanaians. They were arrested for illegal mining in Samreboi, Western Region.
The police shared this news on their official Facebook page. They stated, “The Special Police Anti-galamsey Taskforce from the National Police Headquarters has arrested seventeen suspects.” The arrests took place on May 25, 2025, during ongoing anti-galamsey operations.
After their arrest, the suspects were taken to Accra for further investigations. The police transported all seventeen suspects on the same day.
The police emphasized that operations are not finished yet. They are intensifying efforts in Aowin Tano and Tano Anwia areas near Enchi. Their focus is on identifying more individuals involved and protecting forest reserves.
The Ghana Police Service reassured the public of its commitment to fighting illegal mining. They stated, “The Ghana Police Service remains resolute in its support for national efforts to combat illegal mining.”
