$2 million sky train probe: Ex-GIIF CEO on the run, hiding in Senegal

Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine has revealed that Solomon Asamoah, the former CEO of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), is in Senegal. He is avoiding prosecution related to the SkyTrain Project.

Dr. Ayine confirmed that a $2 million payment was made at the request of GIIF's Board Chairman, Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, and Asamoah.

“We tracked him first to South Africa,” Dr. Ayine said. “He left Ghana on February 2 for South Africa.”

Authorities have been monitoring Asamoah’s movements since then. After South Africa, he moved to Senegal.

“When we contacted him, he said he wouldn’t return for three months,” Dr. Ayine added. “We are patiently waiting for him.”

He stated that if Asamoah wants to be tried in absentia, that is his choice. The Attorney General emphasized their authority to prosecute him even if he is not present.

Dr. Ayine also mentioned that Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi remains in Ghana and may face prosecution soon.

“The person who acted with him to transfer that money is in the country,” he noted. “If there’s a delay, we will start with him as a suspect tried in absentia.”

The SkyTrain Project was proposed as an urban transport initiative but has faced controversy over mismanaged funds and lack of results.
