20-year-old woman commits suicide following adultery allegations

The Kechiebi community in the Oti Region is mourning the death of 20-year-old Fatima Fatawu, who tragically took her own life after allegations of adultery were leveled against her by her in-laws.

Fatima, a young mother known for her vibrant personality, endured intense harassment and public humiliation from her husband’s family.

The accusations stemmed from misunderstandings, including claims about her husband's inability to satisfy her, and escalated when a sister-in-law allegedly caught her leaving another man's room.

Overwhelmed by the disgrace, Fatima took her life in a nearby forest by hanging herself with a nylon rope.

Following a police autopsy, her body was transported to Togo for burial.

The incident has sparked discussions on mental health and the impact of family disputes.
