A group of 425 Ghanaian Muslim pilgrims has arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. They traveled from the five northern regions to perform the 2025 Hajj. The pilgrims were airlifted directly from Yakubu Tali International Airport in Tamale on Saturday, May 10. More pilgrims will depart in batches over the coming days.
About 6,000 pilgrims are expected to travel from Ghana this year. This is an increase of 2,000 compared to last year's 4,000 pilgrims from northern Ghana.
Collins Dauda, Chairman of the Interim Hajj Taskforce, visited the airport with other officials. They included Northern Regional Minister Adolf Ali John and Minister of the Interior Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka. They came to bid farewell to the prospective pilgrims.
Alhaji Dauda urged the pilgrims to be disciplined and law-abiding in Saudi Arabia. He assured them that safety measures had been put in place for their stay. Daily meals will be provided during their time in Medina, and standard hotels have been secured in Mecca.
Minister Muntaka wished them a safe journey and promised high-quality service. He encouraged them to pray for peace and stability in Ghana during their pilgrimage. The Northern Regional Minister also advised them on what they needed to do for a successful Hajj.
Some prospective pilgrims expressed satisfaction with the arrangements made by Hajj agents and the committee. They feel prepared for a successful pilgrimage experience.
