The 2025 Hajj pilgrimage has started for Ghanaian Muslims. The first group of 425 pilgrims arrived safely in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday.
They were flown directly from Tamale’s Yakubu Tali International Airport. More groups are expected to follow in the coming days.
This year, about 6,000 pilgrims from Ghana will make the journey. This is 2,000 more than last year's total from the northern regions.
Before their departure, members of the Interim Hajj Taskforce visited the pilgrims. Chairman Collins Dauda was joined by government officials for prayers and encouragement.
Alhaji Dauda urged pilgrims to maintain discipline during their stay. He assured them of safety, accommodation, and meals in Madina and Mecca.
Alhaji Muntaka highlighted the government's commitment to a smooth pilgrimage. He encouraged pilgrims to pray for peace and stability in Ghana. The Northern Regional Minister also provided guidance on fulfilling Hajj obligations.
Many departing pilgrims expressed satisfaction with the preparations. They praised both the Hajj committee and travel agents for their efforts.
