The Ghana Hajj Taskforce has confirmed the deaths of two pilgrims in Mecca. These deaths occurred during this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.
About 60,000 pilgrims from Ghana traveled to Saudi Arabia for the event. In addition to the deaths, five individuals were repatriated due to visa issues.
Alhaji A.B.A. Fuseini is the Head of Corporate Affairs at the Taskforce. He spoke to Citi News about the situation. He clarified that these pilgrims were not deported in a criminal sense.
He assured the public that efforts are ongoing to resolve their visa problems. The goal is to help them return to Mecca soon.
"Some said they were deported, but we prefer 'repatriated,'" he explained. "Deportation implies criminality, which is not the case here."
He noted that there was an error in issuing their visas. Some attempts to fix these visas led to unfortunate mistakes and withdrawals.
Fuseini emphasized that they are working hard to get these pilgrims back on track.
