President John Dramani Mahama has shared details about his 24-Hour Economy policy. He described it as a long-term goal for the nation. This initiative aims to boost productivity, create jobs, and transform the economy.
During a meeting in Accra, Mahama explained the concept behind this initiative. He encouraged Ghanaians to see it as part of broader development.
“Let me clarify the 24-hour vision,” he said. “It is both a destination and a programme.”
He noted that the 24-Hour Economy represents a future where Ghana's economy operates continuously. This would maximize output and efficiency across all sectors.
“As a destination, it shows high productivity and capital use,” he added. “We will work in multiple shifts day and night.”
Mahama stressed that achieving this goal requires rethinking Ghana’s economic structure. The country must move from relying on raw material exports to focusing on value addition.
“We need to improve our productive systems from top to bottom,” he stated. “This includes boosting volumes and diversity.”
He emphasized shifting towards exporting value-added products like food, pharmaceuticals, garments, industrial inputs, and digital services.
His comments come amid national discussions on job creation and industrialization. Mahama's vision for a 24-Hour Economy is central to his campaign message. It promises a transformative change in how Ghana works and competes globally.
