25K visas issued, 36K denied: U.S. Embassy outlines Ghana visa stats for 2024

The United States Embassy in Ghana announced it issued 25,000 visas in 2024. This was from a total of 61,000 applications received.

The announcement came during a Consular Media Day on May 9, 2025. The event aimed to educate the public about U.S. visa procedures. It also encouraged lawful travel to the United States.

U.S. Consular General Elliot Fertik spoke to the media at the event. He emphasized the importance of following immigration laws. Violating these laws can lead to severe penalties.

Fertik stated, “We welcome Ghanaians who wish to study or invest.” However, he added that this opportunity comes with responsibility. Those who violate U.S. immigration laws risk having their visas revoked or facing permanent bans.

He reaffirmed the U.S. government's commitment to facilitating legitimate travel while protecting borders. Fertik noted that more Ghanaians are applying for visas legally now. The embassy is focused on improving transparency and the applicant experience.

“We’ve made noticeable improvements to enhance the visa application process,” he said. “We want every applicant to understand their obligations clearly.”

He urged travelers not to rely on unauthorized agents or engage in fraud. Adherence to the law is non-negotiable, he stressed.

“Our mission is to support lawful travel while keeping our borders secure,” Fertik concluded.
