$2M Sky Train Saga: Prof Akumfi Absent From Court Over Emergency Hospitalization

The second accused in the $2 million Sky Train corruption case, Professor Ameyaw Akumfi, did not appear in court today. His lawyers cited a sudden health emergency as the reason.

Lead counsel Duke Aaron Sasu informed the Accra High Court that Prof Akumfi was rushed to the emergency ward earlier this morning. The court was set to take his plea today.

Sasu requested a brief adjournment to Friday for his client to attend. He stated, “My client is unable to be present.”

Presiding Judge Justice Comfort Tasiame showed frustration over Prof Akumfi's repeated absences. She noted that he often falls ill on days when his case is heard.

Deputy Attorney-General Dr. Justice Srem-Sai echoed these concerns. He remarked, “It appears the second accused is always rushed to the hospital on proceeding mornings.”

Despite the defense's request for Friday, the judge adjourned the matter until Monday, May 26. She insisted that Prof Akumfi must be present without fail.

This case involves alleged financial mismanagement of $2 million for Ghana’s Sky Train project. It continues to attract public and legal scrutiny due to delays and health-related absences of key defendants.
