$2m Sky Train Case – Ken Agyapong steps in as surety for Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi

Kennedy Agyapong, a former MP, has become a surety for Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi. Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi is the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF). He was granted bail of GH¢10 million with two sureties.

Agyapong stepped in during the ongoing Sky Train Case. A video from GH ONE TV shows him arriving at court with a brown envelope. He left without speaking to the media.

As part of his bail conditions, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi must deposit his passport and travel documents with the court. He also needs to report to investigators once a week. He pleaded not guilty to charges of causing financial loss to the state.

His plea was taken on May 26 after he was hospitalized earlier that week. The case has been adjourned to June 10 at 9:00 a.m.

The Attorney General filed charges against those involved in the $2 million Sky Train scandal. Charges were brought against Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi and Solomon Asamoah, former CEO of GIIF.

They are accused of transferring public funds into a private account for an unexecuted project. The funds were disbursed in February 2019 without necessary board approval.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi claims he approved the transfer based on Asamoah's recommendation. Neither has accounted for the missing funds.

Solomon Asamoah was granted bail after his arrest on May 13, 2025, but remains in custody due to unmet bail conditions imposed last week.
