The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) reported that about 3,000 residents in Odawna, Accra, were affected by floods. This followed heavy rainfall on Sunday, May 18.
Odawna is one of the hardest-hit areas. Many homes were submerged, displacing residents and damaging property.
On Monday, May 19, Nii Adjei Tawiah visited Odawna-Sahara. He is the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly. NADMO’s Municipal Coordinator, Hendrick Noble Kinah, confirmed the damage during this visit.
Kinah stated that a full report has been prepared to guide future actions. “About 3,000 households have been affected in Odawna,” he said. They began assessments on Sunday and found significant flooding issues there.
The MCE spoke to the media after his visit. He acknowledged that flooding has been a long-standing problem in the area. The Assembly is committed to finding a permanent solution.
He mentioned using internally generated funds to improve drainage systems and prevent future floods. “We have faced this challenge for years,” he noted. The goal is to address it effectively rather than just providing temporary relief each time.
“It’s time for us to fix this once and for all,” he concluded.
