Three suspects have been arrested for the recent killings of mobile money vendors in the Ashanti region.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, reported one suspect was arrested in Bawku. Two other suspects were apprehended in Accra.
He praised the National Security and Ghana Police for their efforts but did not provide more details.
In the last two months, three mobile money vendors have been killed in separate incidents in Kumasi. This has caused fear and panic across parts of the Ashanti Region.
These robberies and killings led the Ashanti Regional Security Council to take action. They increased police visibility and provided safety training for MoMo vendors.
The RECSEC is also cracking down on unlicensed motorbikes in the region.
Firearms were used in two of the three recent killings of MoMo vendors.
Dr. Frank Amoakohene emphasized that addressing illicit arms will help combat crime.
