40 individuals nominated for MMDCE positions in Ashanti Region

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated 40 individuals. They are for the position of Metropolitan Municipal District Chief Executives (MMDCEs). This is for various districts in the Ashanti Region.

The nominations follow the 1992 Constitution and Ghana’s local governance laws. A statement from the Presidency confirmed this on Tuesday. It was shared with The Ghanaian Times.

The nominations align with Article 243 of the Constitution. They also comply with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936). This act was amended by the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Act 940).

These legal provisions empower the President to appoint MMDCEs. However, these appointments require approval from the respective assemblies.
