44 out of 288 forest reserves destroyed – Lands Minister

The Lands Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, revealed that 44 out of 288 forest reserves in Ghana have been destroyed due to illegal activities. This alarming statistic highlights the ongoing challenges the country faces in preserving its natural resources. The minister emphasized the need for urgent action to combat deforestation and protect these vital ecosystems.

Jinapor noted that illegal mining, logging, and encroachment are significant contributors to the degradation of forest reserves. He called for collaboration among various stakeholders, including government agencies and local communities, to implement effective measures against these destructive practices. The minister also underscored the importance of education and awareness campaigns to inform citizens about the value of forests.

In response to this crisis, Jinapor announced plans for a comprehensive strategy aimed at restoring damaged areas and enhancing conservation efforts. He urged all Ghanaians to take responsibility for safeguarding their environment, stressing that sustainable management of forest resources is crucial for future generations. The government's commitment to addressing these issues reflects a broader recognition of environmental stewardship's importance in national development.
