Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has disclosed that 5,000 schools across the country still lack proper infrastructure and operate under trees.

Speaking at a public forum on education in Accra, the Tamale South MP acknowledged the negative impact of inadequate school infrastructure on academic activities.

“We have an infrastructure deficit of about 5,000 schools still under trees,” he said, assuring that the Mahama-led administration will address the issue through massive investment in educational infrastructure.

He noted that the first phase of interventions would be unveiled in the 2025 budget to bridge the gap.

The challenge of schools under trees, especially in rural areas, has persisted due to limited funding and a shortage of educational facilities, affecting effective teaching and learning.
