500 NDC supporters sent to UK under pretext of watching Black Stars – Assafuah alleges

Vincent Ekow Assafuah is the MP for Old Tafo. He is also on Ghana’s Youth and Sports Committee. He has made serious allegations against the Sports Ministry.

Assafuah claims the Ministry helped 500 NDC supporters travel to the UK. They were supposedly going to watch the Black Stars play football. He says certain individuals at the Ministry facilitated their visa applications.

According to him, these supporters paid high fees for their visas. He stated that these fees were much higher than standard rates.

On UTV, he explained that he received credible information about this situation. He mentioned that if needed, he can provide proof of his claims. For example, a six-month UK visa costs around £125 or GH₵2,000 through VSF.

However, agents charged much more than this amount for each visa application. Assafuah noted that some people turned this into a business opportunity.

He added that even the British High Commissioner had to respond to this issue. The Commissioner warned that future applicants might not receive visas.

The Unity Cup is a pan-African football tournament in London at Gtech Community Stadium. Meanwhile, the Black Stars lost their semi-final match against Nigeria 2-1.

Ghanaians have reacted to Assafuah's claims in various ways. Some pointed out differences between NPP and NDC practices regarding opportunities like this one.

Others criticized both parties for similar actions in the past. One user dismissed Assafuah's statements as irresponsible and questioned their validity.

Another netizen asked how people could criticize wrongdoing while justifying past actions by NPP leaders.
