The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, announced that 57 radio stations may lose their frequencies. This is due to regulatory breaches.
The Minister clarified that the suspension is not a punishment. It is an opportunity for these stations to fix their issues. They must comply with broadcasting regulations before resuming operations.
On Monday, March 24, Samuel Nartey George spoke to journalists. He mentioned that three of the six recently suspended stations have met requirements for frequency restoration.
He said, “The other six stations are part of about 63 total stations.” Their frequencies will be suspended but not revoked. He added that media houses must follow regulations and cannot claim press freedom as an excuse.
The Minister emphasized that affected stations have a chance to correct their problems. Of the six initially suspended, three have submitted required documentation. He will authorize the restoration of their frequencies soon.
