A recent Afrobarometer survey conducted by the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development has revealed a significant rise in the number of Ghanaians considering emigration.

According to the survey, 61% of respondents expressed a desire to leave the country, up from 41% in 2017.

The study attributes this trend to economic hardships and the search for better work opportunities.

Young people, the unemployed, and those with higher education are the most likely groups to consider emigrating. North America and Europe are the preferred destinations for many.

The survey, conducted in August 2024 with 2,400 adult participants, highlights a doubling in the proportion of individuals who have seriously contemplated emigrating, emphasizing the country’s growing economic concerns.
