A 67-year-old cement seller named Fredrick Adama, also known as Fo Yao, has been found dead in his bedroom. The incident occurred at Ho Barracks Newtown near Kpenoe in the Volta region.
Friends discovered his body after they could not reach him by phone. They said it was unusual for him to be unresponsive. Adama managed the Chapel Square Cement Depot at Ho Barracks Newtown.
An eyewitness reported that Adama was last seen on Monday morning around 7 am. He had closed his shop, saying he was waiting for a cement delivery. Customers often visited his home when the shop was closed.
By 8 am to 9 am, customers grew concerned when he was missing. They contacted Adama's family for help. When Margaret, a cousin, arrived, she found him lifeless in his bedroom.
Preliminary police investigations suggest that Adama hanged himself. Richard Adama told Class News that the depot owner had recently asked him to question Fredrick about missing cement bags.
"About two weeks ago, the owner called me about 50 missing bags," Richard said. "I questioned my brother, but he denied it."
Last week, the owner mentioned another 14 missing bags and threatened to fire Fredrick if they were not found. Richard pleaded for more time to resolve the issue.
The owner had started building an apartment for Fredrick but warned of consequences if the cement remained unaccounted for. Unfortunately, these issues were unresolved before Fredrick took his life.
It is unclear whether these allegations contributed to his suicide. His body has been sent to the Ho Teaching Hospital mortuary for examination as investigations continue.
The community is in shock and awaits answers regarding this tragic event. Fredrick Adama leaves behind an 11-year-old daughter.
