A post-election poll by Global InfoAnalytics shows that 68% of respondents blame former President Nana Akufo-Addo for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 elections.
The poll reflects public sentiment regarding the party's loss. Many voters also blame key government figures for this outcome.
Forty percent of respondents hold former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta responsible. Meanwhile, 37% attribute the defeat to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate and former Vice President.
Additionally, 33% blame Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh. Thirty-two percent hold other government appointees accountable. Twenty-five percent of voters also assign some responsibility to Members of Parliament.
The data suggests that many voters viewed the performance of Akufo-Addo's government as crucial to the NPP’s failure. Economic challenges, governance issues, and public dissatisfaction likely contributed to this perception.
Interestingly, only 9% of respondents blame Kennedy Agyapong. He contested in the NPP’s primaries but did not lead the party in the elections.
This indicates that intra-party competition may have influenced voter decisions. However, most blame was directed at those directly associated with the government's administration.
These findings highlight voter sentiment complexities and challenges facing the NPP as it seeks to rebuild after its electoral loss.
