The World Bank is starting the second cycle of 680 subprojects. These projects are part of the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) Project. They will be implemented in 48 districts across six regions.
The regions include Upper East, Upper West, Northern, Savannah, North East, and Oti. The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs is overseeing the SOCO project.
This project aims to address issues that cause instability. It also seeks to improve access to basic services. Additionally, it promotes economic and social inclusion for youth, women, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.
The SOCO project is a regional initiative involving Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, and Benin. Its goal is to strengthen community resilience in the northern corridor. The project includes five components: community infrastructure investments, support for livelihoods and youth, and institutional capacity building.
