**Military Allegedly Brutalizes Young Boys in Kumasi**
Evidence is emerging about military officers allegedly brutalizing young boys in Kumasi. This incident reportedly led to the deaths of two boys. The military accused them of stealing an iPhone 15 Pro Max from a woman named Mavis Mensah.
The deceased are Kwabena Safo, 25, and Kwame Adu, 32. Christian Obiri Yeboah, also known as Kofi Yesu, survived the attack. After severe beatings, the military allegedly dumped the boys in a bush near Lancaster Hotel.
Witnesses who tried to film the incident had their phones seized and destroyed. On March 27, 2025, Mavis claimed that three boys stole her phone while she was in traffic. She contacted local "area boys" for help.
These area boys went with Mavis to Asafo BB to find the stolen phone. They learned that the boys had sold it for GHS3,000 but could not retrieve it immediately. Mavis eventually paid GHS3,000 and got her phone back.
On March 28, military personnel returned to Asafo BB to find the suspects. They allegedly attacked the boys and beat them severely.
Christian Obiri Yeboah confirmed that they were assaulted after being handed over by informants. He said one military officer noticed bystanders watching and asked his colleagues to stop beating them. However, they ignored him and continued their assault at another location before abandoning them.
Christian managed to walk away and received GHC5 from a Good Samaritan for water. He used this money to clean himself before walking home to Asafo.
When asked if he stole the phone, Christian admitted it was true. Mavis confirmed she had been robbed but successfully retrieved her phone later. She has since left Kumasi for Accra.
Nana Osei is Kwame Adu's brother and spoke with investigators about his brother's distress call. Kwame told him he was abducted by soldiers at Sofoline Barracks after admitting he stole an iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Kwame mentioned that although they returned GHS3,000 to Mavis Mensah, soldiers demanded payment again. Nana Osei could not afford this amount when his brother pleaded for help during their call.
Later that evening, Nana Osei received news of his brother's death from his wife. They rushed to local police stations but found no reports filed regarding Kwame’s situation.
The next day at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), they discovered Kwame's body with visible bruises and lacerations.
In response to these events, the Military High Command issued a statement acknowledging the incident on March 28, 2025. Seven military personnel are alleged to have arrested and assaulted three civilians over a stolen mobile phone.
The victims reportedly suffered various injuries during this encounter. The Military Police and Ashanti Regional Police CID are investigating the case further.
The involved officers have been placed under closed arrest pending investigation results. The Military High Command assures that anyone found guilty will face legal consequences and urges families of victims to remain calm during this process.
When contacted by The Chronicle regarding this case, ASP Godwin Ahianyo from Ashanti Regional Police stated he was unaware due to being out of town.
