7 ‘Abongo Boys’ Run AmokIn Kumasi …Allegedly Beat Two Asafo BB Boys To Death For Stealing iPhone 15 Pro Max

**Military Allegedly Brutalizes Young Boys in Kumasi**

Evidence is emerging about military officers allegedly brutalizing young boys in Kumasi. This incident occurred in Asafo BB, leading to the deaths of two boys.

The military accused the boys of stealing an iPhone 15 Pro Max from Mavis Mensah. The deceased are Kwabena Safo, 25, and Kwame Adu, 32. Christian Obiri Yeboah, also known as Kofi Yesu, survived the attack.

After severe beatings, the military reportedly dumped the boys in a bush near Lancaster Hotel. Witnesses who tried to film the incident had their phones seized and destroyed.

On March 27, 2025, Mavis Mensah reported that three boys stole her phone while she was in traffic. She contacted local "area boys" for help. They went to Asafo BB to find the stolen phone.

The area boys confirmed that the phone had been sold for GHS3,000. However, the buyer had left the area. Mavis later paid GHS3,000 and retrieved her phone.

On March 28, military personnel returned to Asafo BB to retrieve the stolen phone. They attacked the boys suspected of theft and beat them severely.

Christian Obiri Yeboah confirmed that informants handed them over to military personnel at Sofoline. He said one soldier noticed bystanders watching and asked his colleagues to stop beating them. However, they ignored him.

The soldiers took them to an unknown location where they continued beating them before abandoning them. Christian managed to walk away and received GHC5 from a Good Samaritan for water.

When asked if he stole Mavis's phone, Christian admitted it was true. Mavis confirmed she got her iPhone back but had since left Kumasi for Accra.

Nana Osei is Kwame Adu's brother. He received a distress call from Kwame saying he was abducted by soldiers at Sofoline Barracks. Kwame admitted stealing an iPhone and selling it.

Nana Osei said his brother told him they had already paid Mavis back but were still being tortured by soldiers demanding more money. Nana could not afford GHS3,000 for his brother’s release.

Kwame called again pleading for any amount of money due to torture from soldiers. Later that evening, Nana learned his brother was dead.

They rushed to Central and Sofoline Police stations but found no reports filed about Kwame's death. The next day at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), they discovered his body with bruises and lacerations.

The Military High Command has issued a statement regarding this incident on March 28, 2025. Seven military personnel are alleged to have assaulted three civilians over a mobile phone theft.

The victims suffered various injuries during this assault. Military Police and Ashanti Regional Police CID are investigating the case now.

The involved officers and soldiers are under closed arrest pending investigation results. The Military High Command assures that anyone found guilty will face legal consequences and urges families of victims to remain calm during this process.

When contacted by The Chronicle, ASP Godwin Ahianyo from Ashanti Regional Police stated he was unaware of this case as he was out of town.
