The Western Central Regional Police Command has charged seven individuals. They appeared before the Special Court for Illegal Mining in Sekondi.
The accused are Ibrahim Dauda, Michael Tettey Komlorm, Douglas Ayambila, Elvis Aborta, Nsoh Oto (Agorogo), Kwadwo George (Sergio), and Emmanuel Van (Atta). They face charges of conspiracy to commit a crime. They also engaged in mining without a license.
All seven have been remanded in custody. They will return to court on April 17.
On April 1, police arrested 11 people for illegal mining. This group included four Chinese nationals and seven Ghanaians. They were found along the Bonsa River and near Wassa Agona.
Additionally, two more Chinese nationals were arrested. Huan Ciongjian (38) and Ling Yong (56) were caught mining illegally along the Bonsa River.
All foreign nationals have been handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service.
