76 -year-old cement seller commits suicide over missing cement bags

A 67-year-old cement seller named Fredrick Adama, also known as Fo Yao, was found dead in his bedroom. The incident occurred at Ho Barracks Newtown near Kpenoe in the Volta region.

His friends discovered his lifeless body after repeated calls went unanswered. This behavior was unusual for him, according to those who knew him well. Adama managed the Chapel Square Cement Depot at Ho Barracks Newtown.

An eyewitness and co-tenant reported seeing him on Monday morning around 7 a.m. When asked why he closed the shop, he said he was waiting for a cement delivery. People often visited his home when the shop was closed to buy cement.

However, by 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., he was not available. Concerned friends contacted family members for help. When Madam Margaret Adama, a cousin, arrived, they found him unresponsive in his bedroom.

Preliminary police investigations indicated that he had hanged himself. A family member, Mr. Richard Adama, shared details about recent troubles involving missing cement bags. He mentioned that about a week ago, the owner of the depot asked him to question Fredrick about 50 missing bags of cement.

Fredrick denied any wrongdoing during this questioning. Just last week, there were allegations about another 14 missing bags of cement. The owner warned that if Fredrick could not account for them, he might lose his job.

Mr. Richard explained that the owner planned to build an apartment for Fredrick but would reconsider if the issues remained unresolved. Sadly, before these matters could be settled, Fredrick chose to end his life by hanging himself.

It is unclear whether these allegations contributed to his decision to commit suicide. His body has been taken to the Ho Teaching Hospital mortuary for further examination as investigations continue.

The community is in shock and seeks answers regarding this tragic event. Fredrick Adama leaves behind an 11-year-old daughter.
