8 students of Winneba Tech Institute under investigation over viral video of openly brandishing weapons

The Winneba Technical Institute is investigating eight students. This follows a viral video showing them brandishing weapons.

In the video, the students wore their uniforms. They were seen holding knives and scissors. The video has sparked outrage, especially after the incident involving SDA student Suzzy Pinamang.

Suzzy is still recovering from a recent weapon-related tragedy at school.

Stephen Yaw Asare, the Assistant Administrator, spoke to CITI NEWS. He said investigations are ongoing to identify all students in the video.

Asare mentioned that they gathered some students for questioning. After interrogating them, they found out it was meant as a joke. However, due to the video's nature, action must be taken.

Akwasi Addo noted that authorities conduct routine inspections at the school. However, students often find ways to bypass these checks. He urged parents to search their children before sending them to school.

In another incident, a 16-year-old student from Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School was arrested. He was found with a locally manufactured firearm during a dormitory search on May 14, 2025.

School authorities discovered the firearm during their routine check. The student claimed it belonged to his stepfather, Mr. Daniel Owusu Baafi. Both have been taken into police custody for further investigation.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo confirmed this information on May 18. They have both been granted police enquiry bail and must report back on May 19 for more inquiries.

A disturbing video has surfaced showing Winneba Technical Institute students with weapons. This act has caused significant concern in light of recent events involving student safety.
