8 years, no justice: Latif Iddrisu’s case against IGP to drag into 2026

By March 2026, it will be eight years since journalist Latif Iddrisu was allegedly beaten by police. The fight for justice continues without an end in sight.

The legal battle involves Iddrisu, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), and the state. It is expected to last at least another year.

During the latest court session, Senior State Attorney Nancynetta Twumasi Asiamah and Etornam Caleb Affutu requested more trial dates. This request came after the State Attorney missed five out of eight previous court dates. These delays have hindered plans to finish cross-examination.

Only two hearings are left for 2025. The next court appearances are scheduled for January 2026. This means no resolution will occur before the eighth anniversary of the March 27, 2018, assault.

Thursday’s hearing focused on Iddrisu's treatment costs and prescribed medications. He recalled some medication names but could not provide photos of his injuries as evidence.

The State Attorney questioned why he hadn’t submitted those photos. Iddrisu explained that police refused to release CCTV footage from the night of the attack. His lawyers and employer made multiple requests for this evidence.

He stated that police claimed their cameras did not capture the incident at CID Headquarters.

When asked about describing his attackers, Iddrisu said he was never given a chance. He noted he could identify at least one officer but investigators did not arrange an identification parade.

The trial judge asked when cross-examination would end. The State Attorney hoped to conclude by April 29, 2025.

Eight years after the alleged assault, Iddrisu's struggle continues with ongoing court delays and absent evidence.
