Abraham Amaliba, the Director General of the National Road Safety Authority, spoke about Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo. He said the investigation into her will continue despite planned protests.
A coalition of political parties, including the NPP, plans a nationwide demonstration. This protest is set for Monday, May 5. Organizers aim to defend Ghana’s constitutional order and judicial independence.
The decision to demonstrate was made during an emergency meeting on April 24, 2025. Other participating parties include the LPG, NDP, PNP, and GUM.
On The Big Issue program on Channel One TV, Amaliba addressed the protests. He stated that demonstrations would not disrupt the constitutional process. “They can engage in all the demonstrations they want,” he said.
Amaliba believes these actions will not stop the president from following the law. He expressed confidence that the president has not breached any legal provisions.
Regarding Chief Justice Torkonoo's potential return to office, Amaliba said it depends on her evidence. “If she can exonerate herself, she will come back,” he noted.
He emphasized that it all hinges on what evidence she presents to the committee investigating her case. “Let us not jump the gun,” he added.
